Got a Tip?

Tilda Swinton To Star In Comedian Julio Torres’ Directorial Debut Feature From A24

Julio Torres is likely a name that many people aren’t super familiar with. However, if you’re the type of person that wants to wow your friends with that insider Hollywood knowledge and insight, he’s a person you should get familiar with, as soon as possible. You see, not only is he a hilarious stand-up comedian, but Torres is also a well-respected ‘SNL’ writer that has shown up in some solid TV roles such as “Los Espookys” and the Hulu series, “Shrill.” And to add to his already strong bonafides, he’s set to write and direct a new film with Tilda Swinton attached.

As reported by THR, Julio Torres has landed a deal with A24 to write, direct, and star in a brand-new film. And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, the comedian has caught the attention of Tilda Swinton, who will also star in the untitled film. The plot of the film is being kept under wraps, so we don’t know what it’s about, but we do know that A24 is producing the film alongside Fruit Tree, the production company founded by Emma Stone and Dave McCary.

While it’s great to know there’s a brand-new Tilda Swinton project to keep an eye out for, it’s nothing new for the actress to show up in an indie film. When she’s not out there doing big features with Wes Anderson or Marvel Studios, Swinton is no stranger to taking risks with filmmakers she believes in, whether it’s multiple recent films with Joanna Hogg (“The Souvenir” films), a recent Cannes film with Apichatpong Weerasethakul (“Memoria”), or a random, wild role in Jim Jarmusch’sThe Dead Don’t Die,” just to name a few.

Regardless, it’s hard not to think Julio Torres landed the best possible actress to co-star in his film, no matter what the role is. And if we weren’t already happy to see Torres’ stock continue to rise in Hollywood, we’re definitely psyched to see Tilda Swinton put her name on his debut feature.
