Got a Tip?

Tindersticks Won’t Be Releasing A ’35 Shot Of Rhums’ Soundtrack, But A New Tour Coming Soon

For the three people that care, Spoutblog’s Karina Longworth probably being one of them. We just heard back official word from the Tindersticks’ people and there are no official plans to release a soundtrack to the Clair Denis film “35 Rhums.” Bummer. But they are going out in tour in support of their newest release, The Hungry Saw, out this past fall on Constellation. And its their first North American appearance in five years.

Will we ever see “35 Rhums” in the U.S.? Spoutblog listed the film in their Best Undistributed Films of 2008 of 2008 list and so far there’s still no word if it’s coming stateside (wait, not even IFC VOD??)

Longworth wrote in her TIFF review: :The new Claire Denis film is a Claire Denis film, and there are certain givens that this entails: nothing is spelled out, behavior is highlighted over action or incident, and we’re asked to spend a decent chunk of time getting to know the characters and observing their typical behavior before the status quo is changed just slightly and the film’s concerns start to come into focus. But, rather shockingly, the new Claire Denis film is also a bittersweet family movie, and the work you put into it early on is paid back in surprisingly tender dividends.”

We’d love to see it personally. The Tindersticks and their smokey, underappreciated velvety-noir tunes have a history with Denis’ films. They also composed the soundtrack to her 2001 film, “Trouble Everyday” which starred Vincent Gallo. We’re stoked for the tour. As you should be. A Tindersticks event is a rare thing and their night valued enough in North American enough, frankly.
