At one time, James Cameron‘s “Titanic” was….well, king of the world. The doomed romantic drama was a commercial and Oscar sensation, and removed any doubt that the director didn’t have the chops to match his ambitions. Since the film’s release in 1997, Cameron has gone back to the well a couple more times: first for a 3D re-release in 2012, and then three years later with “Titanic Live” which paired the picture with live orchestration from James Horner. Now, he’s given the film yet another coat of paint.
“Titanic” is gearing up for the multiplex again, this time in Dolby Vision. So, what is this format? Here’s what Dolby’s literature has to say:
Dolby Vision™ HDR was designed for the cinema to deliver incredible color, a million-to-one contrast ratio, and twice the brightness of standard screens. Powered by dual-laser projection technology and engineered for a consistent experience, Dolby Vision lets you see more of the story.
So basically, it’s going to look really, really good. As for the movie, I probably don’t have to tell you that it stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and it’s one of the great all time screen romances, and the most famous ill-fated voyage of all time.
“Titanic” is back nationwide for an exclusive one-week engagement starting December 1st in Dolby Cinema at AMC.
