Got a Tip?

Tom Hardy Will Suffer From PTSD In ‘Samarkand’

Tom HardyIf there’s any doubt, Tom Hardy is ready to break out in a big way. While he’s not quite a household name (seriously, just go ask your Mom if she knows who Tom Hardy is), his moment of omnipresence is fast arriving. Of course, "Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises" certainly boosted his profile in a major way, but "Warrior" proved his name was not yet a ticket buying incentive for many. But that’s likely to soon change — "Mad Max: Fury Road" is in the can and awaiting a release date, and in the first half of 2013 he’s embarking on two movies with Noomi Rapace, "Animal Rescue" (which recently also added Matthias Schoenaerts) and "Child 44" and starts shooting the real time thriller "Locke" next month. Now, another movie has been added to his roster.

Hardy is reteaming with director Greg Williams for "Samarkand," for a role that will give the actor a chance to show some different sides to his talents. Penned by Greg and Olly Williams, Hardy will play an SAS office who returns from the Middle East suffering PTSD, and has trouble reintegrating back into society. The actor and writer/director previouisly paired up on the 2011 short film "Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother" which won Williams some Best Director prizes at various festivals, and it’s clear the experience was a good one.

When this roll remains to be seen as it will be vying for attention on Hardy’s slate which also includes: video game adaptation "Splinter Cell"; some anti-animal poaching movies; "Everest" with Doug Liman; "The Long Red Road" with Michael Shannon; stage musical "Harold’s Harem"; a ’60s biker movie and gangster flick "Cicero." So yeah, until then, you can watch ‘Sargeant Slaughter’ below. [Deadline]
