If you go back in time to 2010 and talk to fans of “Toy Story,” they would never think that the series would have a fourth installment. When “Toy Story 3” arrived in theaters, fans were overjoyed, as the end of the trilogy featured perhaps the best story and most emotional moments in the whole franchise. But here we are nine years later, with Woody, Buzz, and the whole crew back one more time.
On the surface, a lot of what you see in the new trailer for “Toy Story 4” is exactly what you might expect. Woody and Buzz find themselves venturing out into the big scary world of humans one more time for another adventure, joined by their toy buddies. This time, they’re joined by new characters including Forky and Canada’s greatest stuntman Duke Caboom. But the folks at Pixar are promising that this new “Toy Story” film isn’t just a cash grab and is a fitting sequel to a trilogy that felt perfectly told, already.
The latest Pixar film features vocal talent such as Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Keanu Reeves, and Christina Hendricks. The new entry in the “Toy Story” franchise is directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”).
“Toy Story 4” hits theaters on June 21.
Here’s the synopsis:
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
