We’re still living in a world of cults. Still, America and the world, for that matter, were haunted by the events of The Manson Family murders, saw a loyal horde of lost and brainwashed youngsters going out and killing people in the hope of enacting Charles Manson’s insane plan to unleash a race war. Thankfully, those plans were never seen through as Manson and his cohorts saw justice, and Manson himself died in prison in 2017 at 83 years old.
A trailer for a new documentary, “CHAOS: The Manson Murders,” from Netflix and filmmaker Errol Morris, hopes to explore further those hard-to-believe events that not only rocked a nation but contributed to the end of the lovely-dovely 1960s alongside the gruesome Vietnam War.
America not only dealt with the eroding feeling of personal safety at home and abroad, but the coverage concerning The Manson Murders and subsequent trials contributed to that loss of innocence for a generation and repeatedly reminded the public of their carnage. Of course, reliving that dark time will make for dramatic and compelling documentary subject matter.
The doc’s official logline from Netflix reads:
“The Manson Murders” untangles a web of conspiracy involving the CIA, LSD, Jack Ruby, the Manson Family, and Vincent Bugliosi, casting doubt on the official story of the 1960s’ most infamous killing spree.
A producing team assembled for “CHAOS: The Manson Murders” consists of Morris, Robert Fernandez, Steven Hathaway, Molly Rokosz, Joshua Kearney, and Maria Sheehan.
Manson has been explored in scripted work as well, with David Fincher’s “Mindhunter” taking more of a clinical approach to the FBI interviewing real-life serial killers as they try to learn how to profile future killers and writer/director Quentin Tarantino attempting to give, Sharon Tate and fellow victims, a better ending with his revisionist revenge-comedy, “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” where his fictional male leads end up killing members of the cult before they got a chance to commit some of their more infamous murders.
“CHAOS: The Manson Murders” will make its debut on March 7 on Netflix, and you can watch the trailer for the upcoming documentary below:
