With the Oscars now over, and putting a cap on the year in movies (for 2011 anyway) it seems now is as good a time as any to see what's happening on the small screen.
First up, fantasy fans steady yourselves, because the full length trailer of the second season of "Game Of Thrones" has arrived. And damn, this thing is every bit as epic as devotees of the show might be hoping for and no, you didn't mishear anything: there is a promise of dragons in this one. This season will delve into "A Clash Of Kings," the second book of George R. R. Martin's "A Song Of Fire Ice" series, and the first episode arrives on April 1st. Be prepared, watch below. But trumping "Game Of Thrones" on the anticipation scale for small screen fans is "Mad Men," and after an all-too-long hiatus, the show is back on March 25th. AMC has dropped a new season five poster, and the first to give us a look at Don Draper back in action. It's a helluva tease, with two mannequins enacting a common Draper scenario (dress on floor, Don ready to pounce). We're eager to see where the show, one of the best written on television right now, goes next and there is a helluva lot to catch up on including Don's impending marriage to Megan. Continuing on theme of returns, "Community" is back on March 15th much to the relief of fans who worried it might have been left for dead, and there's more good news. The season finale will feature the return of two previous guest stars — John Goodman (as Vice Dean Laybourne) and Rob Corddry (Alan Connor, Jeff's former law firm colleague). [EW]
Meanwhile "Breaking Bad" star Giancarlo Esposito, another upcoming guest on "Community," is keeping NBC happy by joining J.J. Abrams' new show "Revolution." The pilot will be directed by Jon Favreau and show is a "high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist." We don't know what means either. Esposito will play military dude Capt. Nevill who may not be all that he seems. In an Abrams show? No way. [THR]
Did you dig MTV's animated show "Good Vibes" created by David Gordon Green? Well, bummer dude, it's been canceled. Poor ratings and a strange fit at the network led to it being axed. [Deadline]
Finally, we didn't know this was happening, but "How To Train Your Dragon" has spawned a Cartoon Network series titled — wait for it — "Dragons." A couple of early teasers have landed, and they're okay we guess, though the animation looks pretty dodgy in spots. And it looks like Jay Baruchel is reprising his voice role, so your kids won't lose sleep at night over continuity. [Collider]
