Rob Marshall’s “Nine” is not something you see everyday. For starters, despite the critical acclaim garnered by his previous work, director Marshall still only has two films next to his name: “Chicago” and “Memoirs Of A Geisha.” A similar story runs true for his upcoming film’s star, Daniel Day-Lewis. Last seen in “There Will Be Blood,” the English actor is more than just his acting self, he’s an institution, with “Nine” marking only his fourth role this decade.
The trailer for “Nine” has just been released via Apple and is an absolute visual and aural delight – did we expect anything less from Marshall? It definitely looks every bit like Oscar bait with its stunning cinematography, exquisite musical sequences and choreography and, of course, all the immense talent involved.
The film is a musical based on Federico Fellini’s “8 ½” and follows the story of Guido Contini, a forty year old director facing a mid-life crisis that is having detrimental effects on his creativity and relationships, namely the host of woman in his life. Starring along side Day-Lewis is an A-grade cast that features the likes of Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Dame Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Stacey “Fergie” Ferguson and Sophia Loren.
Here’s the synopsis:
