Remember when you were a teenager and you thought your parents were so evil? Well, for the kids in “Marvel’s Runaways,” that’s actually true. Runaways has been a comic series that has been stuck in the dreaded Development Hell for years. Writer Brian K. Vaughan was hired to write a film script based on his own creation for Marvel Studios way back in 2008, before Marvel Studios became, well, Marvel Studios. Since then, it’s been tinkered with and teased, before finally landing at Hulu as a TV series.
In the first trailer, viewers finally get to see their first glimpse of the superhero team of teens who were raised by parents that were secretly members of an evil underground criminal empire. After finding out their parents are supervillains, these teens band together to try to take their evil folks down. Judging by the trailer, expect to see plenty of teenage angst, humor, and a dash of heroics.
The series is being developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who serve as co-showrunners. The producing duo are best known for their work on “The O.C.” and “Gossip Girl,” so they have plenty of teen angst street cred. The titular ‘Runaways’ are comprised of actors Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, and Allegra Acosta.
“Marvel’s Runaways.” lands on Hulu November 21.
