The “Aladdin” remake is coming. There’s nothing you can do about it, now. But at least, there might be some great new music in the film.
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are two songwriters that should definitely be on your radar by now. The duo is responsible for some of the biggest songs heard in films over the last couple years. Last year, the team won the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Original Song for “City of Stars” from “La La Land.” This year, they were back at the Oscars for their song “This is Me” from “The Greatest Showman.” And judging by a red carpet interview the two gave, we’ll be hearing a lot more from them in the future.
According to an interview conducted by Variety, Pasek and Paul will have a couple new songs featured in the live-action remake of the Disney classic, “Aladdin.” “We got to collaborate with one of our heroes, Alan Menken. We collaborated with him and wrote the lyrics for two new songs for ‘Aladdin,’” said Pasek.

If you’re a fan of classic Disney animated films, and didn’t live under a rock as a child, then you’re well aware of the work of Alan Menken. He is best known for composing the scores for “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” and “Pocahontas.” Menken has earned numerous Oscars, Golden Globes, and Grammys. Without a doubt, he’s one of the greatest musicians in the history of film.
Combining Menken with the talents of Pasek and Paul seem to be a match made in Oscar heaven. With the skepticism that always comes around with news of Disney remaking another classic film, this musical combination seems like the perfect answer to the question of “how can you improve on something that’s already a classic?”
For those who might not be entirely excited about another Disney live-action remake, you have to concede that the talent working on the music for the upcoming “Aladdin” is top-notch, and their work will probably deserve at least one listen.
