There is probably no comic leading man in Hollywood right now hotter than Steve Carell. It seems each week there is another project announced with the actor/comedian attached and this week is no different.
Variety reports that Universal has picked up an untitled “FBI wedding” comedy in turnaround from Warner Bros. as a potential vehicle for the funnyman. Details are under wraps for now, but the film is said to fall somewhere between that 1987 Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez movie “Stakeout” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” which is two of the oddest comparison points for a project in recent memory. Phil Alden Robinson, who penned “Sneakers” and “Field of Dreams,” is attached to write. So is this going to be a throwback ’90s dramedy or something?
Of course, if and when this ever happens remains to be seen as Carell has got a very busy calendar and lots of other projects to choose from. He’s currently filming “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” with Keira Knightley which he will follow with “Great Hope Springs” with none other than Meryl Streep. After that, he’ll have his choice of projects including “Imagine” with Al Pacino attached, “Burt Wonderstone” that Jason Reitman is rewriting and which still needs a co-star, and there is also the canine dramedy “Dogs of Babel” somewhere in there as well. Carell will next be seen in “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” which opens on July 29th.
