‘Furiosa’: Synopsis Reveals Heroine Will Face A New Wasteland Warlord

Production on George Miller’s high-anticipated follow-up to “Mad Max: Fury Road” is well underway in the land down under. And now there are some interesting new details about the prequel pic that stars Anya Taylor-Joy of “The Northman” as the titular wasteland warrior Furiosa (taking over for Charlize Theron) and “Thor: Love & Thunder” lead Chris Hemsworth

Collider reports that a new synopsis for “Furiosa” reveals that Taylor-Joy’s incarnation of the “Mad Max” heroine will go from the Green Place of Many Mothers to falling into the hands of a Biker Horde led by a new character named Warlord Dementus, the latest in Miller’s excellent trove of post-apocalypse baddies.

Here’s that new synopsis posted by Collider:

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

We actually might have seen members of the Biker Horde in “Fury Road” when Furiosa came across them while trying to free The Wives and return to The Green Place. However, we never saw how they fit into the greater mythology of “Mad Mad,” and that seems to be the point of the prequel. Other warlords include the ones who run the Citadel, Bullet Farm, and Gastown, and we didn’t get a chance to see those other two locations in the films.

It’s unclear who plays Dementus, but Hemsworth was reportedly set for the villain role. Hemsworth as a villainous warlord who’s the leader of a wasteland biker tribe could be all sorts of fun.

Miller also expects to make a direct sequel to “Fury Road” that could involve Tom Hardy and Theron. But after the multiple delays that befell the upcoming “Fury Road” prequel, it remains to be seen if that second film will actually get in front of cameras or not.

“Furisoa” ran into more production delays recently, and its release date is now slated for release in two summers, on May 24, 2024.
