Got a Tip?

Vincent D’Onofrio To Play Villain In ‘Jurassic World’; Jeff Goldblum May Take ‘Independence Day 2’ Instead

Vincent D’Onofrio

Apparently no one has asked Jeff Goldblum if he’s going to reprise his “Jurassic Park” role in “Jurassic World,” but two new actors have been asked and cast. Former “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” actor Vincent D’Onofrio and Indian star Irrfan Khan have both joined the tentpole that already includes Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson. D’Onofrio will play the main villain, and the movie is being directed by “Safety Not Guaranteed” filmmaker Colin Trevorrow (if anyone wants to make a list of indie filmmakers potentially prematurely jumping to tentpoles, Trevorrow would be on it). “Jurassic World” will be released in 3D on June 12, 2015.

Meanwhile, Goldblum might be out of luck on Universal’s rebooting dinosaur franchise, but it sounds like he might be back for “Independence Day 2.” “They’ve talked to me about [‘ID2’] and I’ve talked to them about it and they’re excited and I’m anxious and eager to see—I haven’t read anything—what they cook up,” Goldblum told HuffPo. “You know, I think they’re trying to put it together.”

Well, at least it’s not a “they haven’t called.” “Independence Day 2” is moving ahead despite an unfinished script, but they have time. The movie is currently not slated to release until July 1, 2016 and yes, Roland Emmerich will be back at the helm. The biggest stumbling block, which is certainly making them rethink their approach, is the recent news that Will Smith isn’t coming back. That’s ok, they already had a draft of the sequel without him in the works.

Extra amazing: If Goldblum does indeed not come back for “Jurassic World,” and it sounds like he wont, at least the actor will be able to find some modicum of solace in this song, “Hahahrawrrahaha,” made from the use of his weird laugh in the original movie. Bizarrely awesome. [h/t AVClub]
