'Vought Rising': 'The Boys' Showrunner Calls New Spinoff "'L.A. Confidential' With Superheroes"

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, it was revealed that “The Boys” is getting another live-action spinoff, titled “Vought Rising.” With the massive success of both “The Boys” and its first spinoff, “Gen V,” it was no shock that Prime Video would want more. And hearing the showrunner talk about it, it sounds as if “Vought Rising” could be something special. Especially if you like noir tales.

Speaking to Variety, “The Boys” mastermind, Eric Kripke, talked about the process of bringing “Vought Rising” to Prime Video. For those unaware, “Vought Rising” is a period tale from the ‘50s that showcases two well-known characters, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash). If you’ve watched any of “The Boys,” you know why those two characters are intriguing in that time period.

According to Kripke, he brought the idea of “Vought Rising” to Prime Video at the same time as “Gen V,” but the streaming service wanted to see results first.

“We’ve actually had this idea in our pocket for a really long time,” Kripke explained. “And in fact, when I went to Amazon, to pitch spinoffs, I came with two spinoffs, ‘Gen V’ and ‘Vought Rising.’ And at the time, they said, ‘Let’s start with “Gen V,”‘ and we’ll see how it goes and then maybe we’ll do ‘Rising.’ It turns out it went OK.”

He continued, “I’m just fascinated with the history of how we became who we became. ‘The Boys’ itself is basically a film noir. It’s like cops and robbers. So to really do it classically with like fedoras and trench coats and salacious stuff, and like ‘L.A. Confidential’ with superheroes, is just going to be super fun. And Jensen and Aya, they’re superstars. They’re gonna blow the doors off.”

Considering the popularity of “The Boys” seems to be growing with each season, it’s no surprise Prime Video is interested in a new spinoff. Not only that, “The Boys” only has one more season left, which will leave a big hole in the library of Prime Video. We’ll have to wait and see if “Vought Rising” and “Gen V” are enough to keep it afloat. Perhaps there will be the need for yet another spinoff.

You can watch the four seasons of “The Boys” and one season of “Gen V” on Prime Video now.
