Will genre thrillers be the saving grace of the generally lackluster early winter box office? As far as this winter goes, Hollywood is sure banking on it. With "Contraband" taking the top spot last weekend and with "Haywire," "The Grey" and "Man On A Ledge" coming in the next couple of weeks, studios are hoping audiences are done with that arty, high brow Oscar stuff, and just want to be entertained for 90 minutes.
And so, Sam Worthington will do his best — without all that blue "Avatar" makeup — with 'Ledge,' a movie that seems to be taking its title and concept and running with it. Co-starring Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Banks, Ed Harris and the fetching Genesis Rodriguez, the story centers on an ex-cop turned con (Worthington) who threatens to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop. The NYPD dispatch a female police psychologist (Banks) to talk him down. However, unbeknownst to the cops on the scene, the suicide attempt is a cover for the biggest diamond heist ever pulled.
Six clips have hit from the film, but a word of warning if you want to go in fresh. These seem to fill in one too many shades of the story. That said, with Harris playing the villain this could be a lot of fun and as simplistic as the conceit sounds, we have to admit we're hooked and kind of want to see how this all plays out.
"The Man On A Ledge" will go to the edge on January 27th. Clips and lots of pics below. [Yahoo/Coming Soon]
