Like it, love it or (in a few cases) loathe it, "Birdman" feels like one of the films that, when we look back years or decades from now, will come to define 2014 at the movies. With some of the best reviews of the year (including ours), and one of the best limited releases in recent memory, it looks as though it will be both a commercial hit and a serious Oscar contender along the way.
It’s worth noting that after three weeks the film hasn’t played in more than 230 theaters, but will expand in the weeks and months to come. To help keep up the momentum, Fox Searchlight have released a couple of goodies for the film. One is a clip that features Michael Keaton alongside co-stars Naomi Watts, and Andrea Riseborough, while the other, more interesting one is a Variety featurette looking at how Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and digital colorist Steve Scott achieved the film’s striking trick of appearing like it was achieved in one-shot.
It’s great stuff if you’ve seen the film, and can only make those who haven’t seen the film want to see it more. Check out both bits of footage below.
