Summer might be over, and the leaves may be changing, but that doesn’t mean Hollywood has given up entirely on popcorn thrills. This fall will still have a couple of offerings worthy of summer spectacle, and perhaps the biggest of them all is Peter Jackson‘s “The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.” And promising returning faces from “The Lord Of The Rings” trilogy and a big fucking dragon, this middle chapter in a new J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy could be the escapist fantasy of the season.

Martin Freeman‘s Bilbo Baggins returns to join Gandalf and the dwarves as they head to the Misty Mountains to fetch their gold from the clutches of Smaug (voice by Benedict Cumberbatch). And all sorts of new and old faces will greet them along the way including Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly. Yes, 3D is back again for this latest adventure, but oddly enough, the high frame rates, which no one really seemed to care about, and that those who did see it, disliked, are kept on the down low.

Are you more/less excited for this? Does it match the epic feel that Jackson mastered in the LOTR films? Let us know below. ‘Desolation Of Smaug’ opens on December 13th.
