We may be a full seven days into the New Year, but right now at a theater near you, it’s like time is standing still. Last week, the big wide release was “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.” This week? “The Legend Of Hercules” with Kellan Lutz. Ooof. But next week, prospects will be looking much brighter with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube trading barbs in “Ride Along,” while Chris Pine becomes “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.” But if you want to give one of 2013’s best movies one more round at the multiplex, you’ll have a shot at that too.
Riding the awards season buzz, including a DGA nomination today for director Alfonso Cuaron, Warner Bros. is bringing “Gravity” back to theaters on January 17th. While the extent of the re-release isn’t yet known, The Wrap says “it’s expected to be more robust than a typical limited release.” And not only does WB want to build on the critical buzz, but they won’t mind taking a bit more theatrical cash for this one home too, as the sci-fi thriller has already proven to be a massive success with $225 million in the U.S. and a whopping $670 million worldwide.
Anyway, before you back to outer space, be sure to check out this excellent 5-minute featurette “From Script To Screen” followed by Variety‘s interview with Cuaron and star Sandra Bullock.
