Got a Tip?

Watch: First 12 Minutes From Debut Episode Of ‘The Red Road’ Directed By James Gray

The Red RoadUp on our list of TV to be excited for in 2014 is Sundance Channel‘s “The Red Road,” a six-part drama that’ll be premiering next Thursday, with the first episode directed by none other than James Gray, making his small screen debut. Now, thanks to the folks at Buzzfeed, you can watch the first 12 minutes of that very episode, which sets up the show and introduces the main players.

“The Red Road” is set around the difficult relationship between a small town in upstate New York and the federally unrecognized Native American community just up the road. The opening scenes show us the simmering tensions and plot points—a missing white kid, a dissatisfied and impoverished Native American group, a murder—and the people caught in the middle, most notably Martin Henderson as a local police officer and Jason “Khal Drogo” Momoa, representing the criminal element: Tom Sizemore and Julianne Nicholson also star.

Sundance Channel is coming off the hit “Top of the Lake,” and this looks to be more of the same: complex, sub-surface tension in isolated, dangerous communities. Just the way we like it.
