Watch: First Trailer For ‘I Origins’ Starring Michael Pitt & Brit Marling Sees The Number 11 Everywhere

I Origins

The intersection of spirituality, faith and chance… these are tricky ingredients to work with when it comes to spinning a cinematic tale, with the possibility of tilting toward the New Age ever present. But Mike Cahill gets it right with “I Origins” and the first trailer is here.

Re-teaming the “Another Earth” director with Brit Marling, the film is led by Michael Pitt and Astrid Bergés-Frisbey and follows a man-of-science PhD student Ian who falls for the beautiful Sofi, who is his total opposite in almost every way. Their love is passionate but brief, and seven years later, Ian is married to his lab assistant, Karen. But a scientific discovery turns their world upside down, and Ian must track down Sofi to confront his past and find the truth. And it’s probably not the kind of movie best summed up in a logline, so here’s what Rodrigo Perez said in his review out of Sundance

Tackling the big questions of the universe, the secret, silent moments going on behind all things that we sense but cannot explain, “I Origins” is the logical extension of what Cahill did with “Another Earth.” If his debut was an auspicious and intriguing opening shot with an excellent premise that didn’t quite follow through, then “I Origins” is the fully-formed expression of all of Cahill’s ambitious ideas.

“I Origins” opens on July 18th. Watch below and check out our interview with Mike Cahill and Michael Pitt right here.
