Watch: First Trailer For The Terminal Illness Romance Flick ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ Starring Shailene Woodley

The Fault In Our Stars

Since breaking out in “The Descendants” — where she played the daughter of woman in a coma, while navigating a complex relationship with her father — Shailene Woodley‘s onscreen characters haven’t always had it easy. In “The Spectacular Now” she deals with the complications of dating a selfish, non-committal, directionless alcoholic and next year, her Mom will go missing in “White Bird In A Blizzard” and she’ll take on the leaders of a grim post-apocalyptic future in “Divergent.” While “The Fault In Our Stars” looks like a love story, once again Woodley will have a rough path.

Co-starring Ansel Englort, the story follows two young cancer survivors who fall in love, and travel to Amsterdam to meet the author of a book about cancer to learn the fate of its characters (meta!). Here’s the official synopsis:

Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them – and us – on an unforgettable journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, based upon the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.

Tagged as “One Sick Love Story,” that apparently glib summation has rubbed a few people the wrong way, in what appears to be a minor controversy. But one can’t debate this cast which includes Willem Dafoe, Nat Wolff, Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Mike Birbiglia and Emily Peachey.

Directed by Josh Boone, and written by Scott Neustadter, “The Fault In Our Stars” lands in theaters June 6, 2014.
