Got a Tip?

Watch: James McAvoy & Andrea Riseborough Make A Proposal In Clip From ‘Welcome To The Punch’

nullIt’s not as though James McAvoy has been gone very long, but his absence, albeit brief, from top-tier dramatic roles ("Arthur Christmas" notwithstanding) has been a difficult time for all of us. The good news, however, is that he’s back in our lives with a couple new movies arriving within the span of a few weeks, in Danny Boyle's "Trance" and "Welcome To The Punch." And a new clip for the latter British thriller, directed by Eran Creevy, has now landed.

The bad news, for those who like their accents plausible, is that a questionable cockney number seems to have been traded for McAvoy’s beloved Scottish tones. The teaser material, which cuts right into an impenetrable bit of dialogue so far from spoiler territory that it really isn’t clear what on earth they’re talking about, has been aired this week in anticipation of release in the U.S. on March 27th. A little wider research informs us that the thriller, which also lists perpetual baddie Mark Strong, sees McAvoy as a London-based detective in pursuit of an elusive ex-criminal (Strong) whose cover is blown when his son is implicated in a fumbled heist.

Creevy’s script was ranked third in 2010 on the Brit List, a compilation by members of the UK film industry of the nation’s best unproduced screenplays, and with McAvoy on board to star in an adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s "Filth" later this year, 2013 may prove to be a good vintage for British cinema and for McAvoy fans as well.
