While its 135-minute running time may have made it too long for some viewers, once again Judd Apatow reminds us just how much longer “This Is 40” could’ve been. He’s already graced us with four other deleted scenes, which range from topics like the Kardashians to Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong’s death metal side project. Here, we get to see a bit more from Megan Fox, Jason Segel and Chris O’Dowd’s characters from the movie.
More of an extended scene than a deleted scene, this clip sheds a bit more light on the humorous relationship dynamics amongst the three characters. The scene takes place in the midst of all the chaos that is Pete’s 40th birthday party. While Pete and Debbie’s relationship reaches its breaking point, Desi, Ronnie, and Jason are just hanging out, getting to know each other, talking about zodiac signs. In typical Apatow fashion, there are many dirty jokes, including a funny reference to “The Kids Are All Right.” The clip could be considered a consolation prize for those who thought Segel, Fox, or Chris O’Dowd didn’t get enough screen time in the film. Still, you can see why most of this scene wound up on the cutting room floor.
“This is 40” is still out in theaters everywhere so if you’re still itching to see it, you better hurry up. It’s way too early to tell when the DVD/Blu-ray will come out, but if these deleted scenes are any indication, we could be getting a five hour director’s cut. [Mashable]
