Got a Tip?

Watch: Milla Jovovich Is Afraid Of Everybody In Trailer For ‘Faces In The Crowd’

No, This Is Not A Remake Of The Elia Kazan Movie

The career of Milla Jovovich has been interesting. She first broke out in “The Fifth Element” by bringing a surprising heart to a role that was largely defined by a lack of clothing and who spoke a language no one understood. From there she established herself as a genre star, anchoring the “Resident Evil” franchise while taking on roles in films like “.45,” “Ultraviolet,” “The Fourth Kind,” “A Perfect Getaway” and this year’s “The Three Musketeers.” Unfortunately, recent efforts to take on more dramatic roles have been unfairly ignored — she was pretty solid in the underrated “Stone” — so it’s back to her bread and butter. But even we thought she was above dreck like this.

The first trailer for “Faces In the Crowd” has arrived and it’s as ludicrous as you might expect. In the film, Jovovich plays Anna Marchant, whose default iPhone ringtone reveals her to a serial killer she watches doing his dirty business, and he tries to get rid of her by tossing her off a bridge. Only she doesn’t die. Instead, she now suffers face-blindness (prosopagnosia), a real condition in which the brain can’t retain the memory of those Anna sees in her long-term memory. So each day when she wakes up, she has no idea the man laying beside her is her husband. What emerges is a cat-and-mouse game that gets more inane with each passing second of this spot, with Jovovich offering different variations of being terrified by random people because she doesn’t recognize them.

Julien Magnat directs, his second film and first effort in nearly a decade since 2002’s “Bloody Mallory” — watch below and you’ll see why — and somehow, Marianne Faithfull is in this too. No word yet on a release date. [STYD]
