After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, “Nebraska” has seemingly been playing it cool when it comes to its fall, stateside debut. Skipping Telluride and Toronto, the movie will make its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival, which kicks off later this month, and right after that, it will continue to roll out hitting a rising fest out of the south.
The Savannah Film Festival has nabbed for the movie for the opening slot of their 16th annual event, and in addition, 2006 Savannah Film Festival honoree Bruce Dern will present director Alexander Payne with the Outstanding Achievement In Cinema award from the fest. So that opening night slot is already looking like a night to remember for those able to nab tickets (which go on sale October 1st) for the screening at the lovely Trustees Theater.
Until then, here’s a brand new clip from the film which does a nice job of summarizing the plot as well, which follows a cranky old man (Dern) who ropes his son into driving him to Lincoln, Nebraska to collect what he thinks are his winnings from a national sweepstakes contest. And as you’ll see, it will be a bumpy ride in more ways than one.
