“We’re going to say this only once. We recommend you go in to ‘Alps’ as cold as possible,” our man in Venice Oliver Lyttelton cautioned in his review. “It’s not quite like anything you’ve seen, and part of its pleasure is watching it play out. There’s no giant twist or anything, but we’re glad we saw it the way we did: knowing only a brief synopsis, and nothing else.” So with that in mind, here’s another clip from Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “Alps,” his highly anticipated followup to “Dogtooth.”
As you might expect, it’s funny, it’s strange as hell and pretty damn intriguing, so in short, it’s everything you might expect from Lanthimos. The film, which brings “Dogtooth” actress Aggeliki Papoulia back into the fold, tells the story about a group of people who agree to stand in for the lost loved ones of others, replicating their behavior and gestures, to help with the grieving process. So yes, it’s another out there premise from the director meaning that something as seemingly innocuous as a hospital visit gets its own, unique and odd charm.
“Alps” is now headed to TIFF riding a big wave of buzz. The film has been picked up by Canadian distributors Films We Like, though no U.S. shingle has yet taken on the movie. No release dates yet. Watch the clip below. [via Twitch]
