Also Shows Off Some Of Jonsi’s Score For The Movie

Well, after the first trailer for Cameron Crowe‘s “We Bought a Zooarrived last month, we promptly counted it out of the Oscar race but it looks like with a meaty December release date and a big hearted story featuring cute animals, this is aiming to be Fox‘s “Marley & Me” for this year, though probably without the three-hankie ending. A new international trailer has arrived for the movie and in addition to a good amount of new scenes and footage — most significantly a moment involving Patrick Fugit evaluating Matt Damon‘s character — we also get a pretty nice preview of Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi‘s score the movie which sounds appropriately…Jonsi-esque.

Based on a true story, the film follows Ben (Damon), a single father who attempts to fulfill his late wife’s wish of moving their family to the titular animal sanctuary, along the way coming across the possibility of moving on thanks to a beautiful, dedicated zookeeper (Scarlett Johansson). The supporting cast is pretty decent — Elle Fanning, Thomas Haden Church, Angus MacFadyen, John Michael Higgins and J.B. Smoove among them — but the tone will be crucial to the success of the picture. Will it be a nuanced dramedy about a fractured family coming together, or a syrupy drama that uses baby chicks to wring out the emotion (yes, they do appear here). At this point it’s hard to tell, but it’s clear the movie is swinging straight for middle-of-the-road audiences, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though whether or not Crowe is playing down to an audience or meeting them halfway is still up for debate.

“We Bought a Zoo” arrives on December 23rd. Watch the trailer below. [via ComingSoon]
