Oh, goddamn it, Damon Lindelof, despite our better instincts, now we’re going to have to watch this thing. Yes, the creator/producer of "Lost" is back with another show brimming with promise and potential, and despite how that ABC series ended (i.e. horribly) we’re going to grudgingly sit down this summer on the couch and (grudgingly) watch his latest, "The Leftovers." And yes, that’s because this new trailer is pretty great.
Justin Theroux leads the show, based on the 2011 novel by Tom Perotta, that finds 2% of the world’s population just up and vanishing into thin air one day. Was it the rapture? How do people move on from that? Those are the core questions at the heart of "The Leftovers," which in this new trailer shows a lot of interesting world building. And again, Lindelof certainly knows how to build fascinating environments, but here’s hoping he has an endgame in mind, and we’re not just waiting a few seasons for some dude to open his eyes on the beach.
Co-starring Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Michael Gaston and Ann Dowd, "The Leftovers" debuts on HBO on Sunday, June 29th at 10 p.m. And oh yeah, the song in the trailer is "Retrograde" by James Blake. Trailer and teaser poster below.
