Though the its cinematic universe in divided into three — “Spider-Man” is with Sony, the “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four” characters with Fox, and the rest with the comics giant itself — Marvel is still far ahead of the competition for the next several years. In fact, with “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” the company hopes to slowly introduce more obscure characters from their catalogue to general audiences without the expense of a large blockbuster. In fact, yesterday came news that the middling ABC series will be adding two characters absent from the Marvel cinematic universe up until now.
Per Deadline, at a TCA event Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb told reporters that the cyborg Deathlok (aka Deathlok the Demolisher) and Asgardian goddess (and occasional accomplice to Loki) Lorelei will be making their debut in the second half of this season. Deathlok will come out of the gate first with S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Mike Peterson — J August Richards — making his transformation next month which would presumably include his death as the cyborg character is usually created through the reanimation of a dead human using cybernetic technology. As for Lorelei? She’ll be played by Elena Satine and will end up squaring off Jaime Alexander’s Lady Sif in an arc that will no doubt be timed with the release of “Thor: The Dark World” on home video.
In other Marvel news, but outside the company’s purview, is some new footage from the superhero sequel/reboot/team-up film “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” that premiered on Instagram. As all videos on the photo-sharing service are, the footage is only fifteen seconds long with some dramatic percussion but it’s clear that the everyone’s favorite band of mutants are in trouble. “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” hits theaters on May 23rd. Watch the video below, and there is more coming from the movie next week.
