Watch: New Trailer For 'RoboCop' Starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman & Samuel L. Jackson Goes On Duty

Robocop, 2014

While we didn’t necessarily want this remake, it has been made, and we have to admit, we’re intrigued by “RoboCop.” The talent for this is certainly undeniable with “Elite Squad” helmer Jose Padilha guiding a helluva cast—Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel and Samuel L. Jackson—through futuristic Detroit. But can it even begin to come close to Paul Verhoeven‘s twisted perfection? Well, this new trailer is going to make a case for it.

With a few months to go before it properly goes on duty, a brand new spot has arrived showing off more action, the slick 2.0 suit and lots of great actors seemingly enjoying putting on their pulp cinema pants. But perhaps most interestingly will be the ways in which the story has been upgraded. “We go a little further with Alex Murphy. We get to know him a little better, we spent more time with Alex Murphy when he’s at work as an undercover cop and as a family man. He’s got a beautiful little family. And then that is very much the question. Is he now a property? Is he owned by OmniCorp? He’s very vulnerable because the system needs to be changed and he needs to be plugged in, so he’s dependent on this corporation that has made him to survive, that has made him very powerful but at the same time very vulnerable,” Kinnaman told Moviepilot.

But don’t worry, there are some rich ideas in here too (just don’t expect to necessarily see them in the trailer). “We want the excitement in the trailer. Then people will get in there and then they’ll find out how morally intriguing it is, but first we’re going to show them the trailer,” Jackson told the site. “Then when people tweet their friends they’ll say “Damn, that s–t is morally intelligent.”

“RoboCop” drops on February 12, 2014. Watch below.
