Got a Tip?

Watch: New Trailer For The ‘Poltergeist’ Remake Delivers An Unrelenting Nightmare

Poltergeist"Why remake a classic?" It’s the question everyone is asking about the upcoming "Poltergeist" redo, and a query Reddit posed to director Gil Kenan himself in a recent AMA. "Well, it’s a really good question, and it’s one I had to answer for myself before entering this. I’ll give a few answers that will hopefully work together," he said.

"The first one is: because it’s a great story. And great stories deserve to be told, even if they’ve been told well in the past, it’s material that is rich and relevant to the generation that’s telling the story, and a lot has happened in the 30 years since the original came out," Kenan continued. "The second part is: I am a true fan of ‘Poltergeist’ (1982), and I felt like I could honor the vision and the franchise that made the original as popular as it was. And I wanted to protect it. I know that the reasons that brought me to the table on this film are the ones that will hopefully make the film work for audiences of today. So that’s the second answer."

So, he’s got some honorable intentions, but can he make it all sing? Well, a new trailer is here, hoping to make the hair stand up on end. This time around, Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie Dewitt are the parents of the little kid who gets too close to the TV and brings some otherworldly stuff into the home.

"Poltergeist" opens on May 22nd. Watch the new trailer and TV spot below.
