Well, here’s a Nicolas Cage we don’t see to often these days, giving a dialled down and controlled performance in the forthcoming “Joe.” And we have to thank David Gordon Green for that, finding the actor within Cage that has been lost lately to bad movies that tend to play into his more hysterical tendencies as an actor.
Co-starring Tye Sherdian and based on the novel by Larry Brown, the story follows a troubled ex-con and a teenager from a broken home who form an unlikely bond, as both look to find a new life. It’s not exactly reinventing the wheel, but in Green’s hands, he delivers “a muscular and textured piece of work that shifts assuredly through tones and genre, features a rich and rewarding performance from Cage, and another excellent turn from his young co-star.” And you can get a sampling of all that in this new clip from the movie via Vulture, in which the chemistry between Cage and Sheridan is palpable.
“Joe” opens on April 11th. Clip and lots of new pics below.
