Watch: Opening Musical Number For 'Ted 2' Narrated By Seth MacFarlane

This weekend, Americans are going to get cuddly with "Ted 2," with Seth MacFarlane‘s raunchy comedy (read our review) expected to do big business. But before the movie gets into the jizz jokes and f-bombs, it kicks off with grand musical number, allowing MacFarlane to indulge in his love of old time song and dance numbers, and he talks about the sequence with The New York Times for a new Anatomy Of A Scene feature.

Taking three days to shoot, MacFarlane reveals he ditched the motion-capture suit for this scene and let the visual effects team take over to create a dancing Ted to move and groove to "Stepping Out With My Baby." And he shares why he wanted to open his movie with such a big flourish.

"There should always be a sense of showmanship in film, particularly when it comes to your opening. There’s something nice about an old-fashioned credit sequence that gives you a nice drumroll and a little bit of P. T. Barnum fanfare. It was important to me to communicate to the audience that this was a bigger and more spectacular movie than the first one," he said.

"I had worked with Rob Ashford, the choreographer, at the Oscars and had approached him with the idea of doing something in the vein of an interaction between Ted and all these dancers to open the movie," MacFarlane continued. "We both referenced the old Gene Kelly movie ‘Anchors Aweigh,’ in which he famously did a dance number with Jerry the mouse. It was pretty revolutionary for the time that he was choreographing to a character that wasn’t there. This was an attempt to take that to the next level."
