While the movie doesn't always work, and overall you wish it had been a little better, this new red band trailer for "Friends With Kids" is a good reminder of why this dramedy is worth tracking down. Buoyed by a staggeringly strong ensemble, when the material clicks, the movie really works and there is more than enough charm to the film to make it worthy of a recommendation.
Conceived by writer, director and star Jennifer Westfeldt, and also featuring Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Chris O'Dowd, Jon Hamm and Megan Fox, the story centers on two best friends who decide to have a baby (because that biological clock is ticking) without being in a romantic relationship, to avoid the traps their friends have fallen into. Of course, things don't go as expected, and their friends are supportive but wary of their plan. But at least for the first two thirds of "Friends With Kids," it's a pretty refreshing and real look at modern relationships. It's just too bad the ending sticks to something dull and conventional, but watching guys like Scott, Hamm and O'Dowd competing to steal scenes, and Rudolph and Wiig just killing it, it's hard to nitpick too much.
"Friends With Kids" hits on March 9th. Watch below.
