“It’s fantastic that we were able to integrate electronic music into what is a really universal film," Zac Efron recently said about his upcoming generational music drama. It’s sort of like what disco was in ‘Saturday Night Fever.’ That movie really is about a guy transitioning from a certain place in his life and becoming an adult and the backdrop is disco, so this is our generation’s version and it’s electronic music.”
Will "We Are Your Friends" be the cherry on top of what has overall been a pretty lousy summer for Warner Bros.? The electronic music scene coming-of-age story doesn’t have much buzz at the moment, as no one really asked to see a Zac Efron movie about a hunky DJ trying to make it. But WB is still gonna try and put asses in the seats.
And so, here are seven clips from the upcoming movie. Wes Bentley, Emily Ratajkowski, Jonny Weston, Shiloh Fernandez and Jon Bernthal all co-star in the flick about Cole, a DJ who wants more out of life, and strives to make it with his skills as a beatmaker and knob-twiddler. Here’s the official synopsis:
“We Are Your Friends” is about what it takes to find your voice. Set in the world of electronic music and Hollywood nightlife, an aspiring 23-year-old DJ named Cole (Efron) spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that will set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James (Bentley), who takes him under his wing. Things get complicated, however, when Cole starts falling for James’ much younger girlfriend, Sophie (Ratajkowski). With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he is destined for.
"We Are Your Friends" opens on August 28th. [Collider]
