With over $125 million in the bank for “The Woman In Black” and a sequel on the way, it’s safe to say that vintage, and newly rebooted, horror studio Hammer is off to a very healthy start. They managed the rare combo with their Daniel Radcliffe-starring debut: creating a genuinely creepy flick that not only shivered the spines of audiences, but critics too. Can they do it again with “The Quiet Ones“? Well, the first teaser trailer is here and…
…it looks a bit familiar. The whole, let’s-film-this-creepy-experiment thing is a staple of the genre, so let’s hope they can transcend it. Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, Erin Richards, Olivia Cooke and Rory Fleck-Byrne in the (obviously) inspired-by-true-events story will follow an unorthodox, but charismatic professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment to create a poltergeist from negative human energy. RUH ROH.
To the movie’s benefit, it does look like they actually spent some money on this, and Harris in the lead is intriguing too. Certainly director John Pogue can’t do worse that “Quarantine 2: Terminal,” right? “The Quiet Ones” opens on April 11, 2014.
