The first trailer for “Thor” has landed and if you saw the widely circulated, decent quality Comic-Con clip that made the rounds last summer, you’ve pretty much seen this one as well (granted, there are some new, brief scenes of the hammer and Thor flying around and a couple fresh peeks of Destroyer making things go boom).
We’ve had reservations about this particular comic getting the big screen treatment and our quibbles haven’t been put to rest just yet. The set designs still look pretty dorky — we’re still unclear why Odin & co seem to live inside a giant church organ — and director Kenneth Branagh‘s love of Dutch camera angles is slightly excessive. That said, we’d be lying if we said it still doesn’t excite us on some level and we hope the gravitas that Branagh is bringing to the table doesn’t tip over into camp. So yeah, our expectations on this one are reserved. But lest we be called snarky haters, we’ll leave our comments at that.
The film’s huge cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Adriana Barraza, and it will arrive in theaters on May 6, 2011.
