Much to the chagrin of a certain faction of arthouse-only devotees, we've been pretty pumped about "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" for a variety of reason. It marks the live action feature debut by longtime Pixar director Brad Bird ("The Incredibles"), it boasts a pretty great cast (Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Léa Seydoux, Anil Kapoor and more) and that recent full length trailer was pretty ace. Well, a new clip has arrived for the movie over at MSN and it's a reminder that slick packaging can be deceving.
It's a little bit mind boggling why this scene above anything else in the movie was selected to keep the buzz going, because out of context (at least we hope) it's ridiculously camp. It features a tux wearing Ethan Hunt breathlessly saying "Jump" repeatedly, to the point of hilarity, to shady agent Brandt who is being implored to fall down a giant shaft toward a dangerous fan. Meanwhile, geeky Benji tries to assure him he'll be fine. Jump, jump, jump. The scene is pretty much tailor made to be hacked up and viralized with new clips being put in of people/animals responding to Cruise saying "Jump!" But yeah, the entire scene comes off pretty goofy but let's just hope it's just a case of sequence being removed from its proper environment.
"Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" opens in IMAX on December 16th and then in theaters across the land on December 21st. Watch below.
