Okay, before our comments section explodes with nerds saying this is old, dudes, we know. We slept on it first time around, but now that the documentary “Drew: The Man Behind The Poster” has come off the festival circuit and has U.S. distribution from Kino Lorber, it’s a good time to catch up.
So which Drew are we talking about? Well, Drew Struzan. He’s the artist behind the posters for pretty much every iconic movie you watched growing up, including each of the key trilogies, “Indiana Jones,” “Back to the Future” and “Star Wars.” His artwork is treasured and beloved, and he’s grown a devoted following of fans and admirers both inside and outside the industry, including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Frank Darabont, Guillermo Del Toro and Michael J. Fox who are all interviewed in this doc directed by Erik Sharkey. Basically, if you’re a fan of any of those movies or just great movie marketing in general, this should be on your list to track down.
“Drew: The Man Behind The Poster” hits theaters in San Diego later this month, launching the same weekend as Comic-Con (smart). Then in August it will open in New York City and hit other cities as well. Watch below.
