What happens in the near future when an elderly man is given a robot to help him around the house? He plans a heist of course. That's the high concept premise of "Robot & Frank" a sci-fi/romance/heist flick that warmed the hearts of many when it premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
Starring Frank Langella, James Marsden, Liv Tyler and Susan Sarandon, the film follows Frank (Langella), a retired cat burglar, who has two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone. They are tempted to place him in a nursing home until Frank's son chooses a different option: against the old man's wishes, he buys Frank a walking, talking humanoid robot programmed to improve his physical and mental health. Frank decides to use his new robot pal to help plot a heist all while striking up a romance with a librarian (Sarandon).
The feature film debut of commercial director Jake Schreier, "Robot And Frank" was the co-winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize and you check it out when it hits theaters on August 24th.
