Decades after the original TV series and newspaper comics, the Addams family is returning to the public eye. Except for this time, in “Wednesday,” as the title implies, the focus is now on the eldest daughter.
As seen in the trailer for “Wednesday,” the show follows the story of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) as she deals with life at the Nevermore Academy. The series does feature all the classic characters you know and love, but the spotlight is clearly centered on Wednesday’s struggles as she not only deals with coming-of-age problems but also a developing psychic ability.
Ortega is joined in the cast by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, and Isaac Ordonez, who play Morticia, Gomez, and Pugsley, respectively. Also in the cast are Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa.
“Wednesday” is the brainchild of filmmaker Tim Burton and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar. The latter two are probably best known for spearheading “Smallville” back in the day. But judging by the trailer, this is clearly a Tim Burton project.
“Wednesday” still doesn’t have an official release date and is listed as “coming soon.”
Here’s the synopsis for the series:
The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
