Got a Tip?

‘Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?’ Apparently On Jennifer Lopez’s Block

nullIf you were a child of the '80s, you likely spent some time with "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?" the first in a series of best-selling, educational and actually pretty entertaining video games that mixed history and geography in the guise of a spyhunt. The basic premise was that you had to catch the dastardly Carmen Sandiego and her V.I.L.E. henchmen by answering a bunch of clues about the locations in the world where they could be hiding. The video game was eventually turned into the awesome '90s kids educational game show, and of course Hollywood came knocking. Disney tried to do something with the property in the '90s with Sandra Bullock but it never went anywhere, but now someone different is gonna ruin another childhood staple.

Walden Media, best known for the "The Chronicles of Narnia" films, are gonna try and get 'Carmen Sandiego' up on the big screen. And lord knows, they need a franchise since they recently lost the rights to 'Narnia' (so yeah, no more movies for a while). And who better to develop the movie than Jennifer Lopez. That's right, Jenny from the block is producing the project, which is aiming to be something in the vein of "National Treasure" meets "The Thomas Crown Affair," but probably with more God and/or Pitbull references. And while she isn't attached to star just yet, the idea is for the project to be developed with her in mind to take the title character. Here's the logline they're using:

When the ACME agency’s greatest detective Carmen Sandiego becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. Their cat-and-mouse game leads the partner to confront a greater mystery: Is Carmen really a thief or a hero?

Last we checked, she was a judge on "American Idol." Anyway, it was bound to happen that the property would be made at some point, so we're not gonna wring our hands over this. But sorry, without Rockapella or the fierce Lynne Thigpen, this project is dead to us. [Deadline]
