Got a Tip?

Who Would Mikey Madison Like To Work With Next? Luca Guadagnino & Alice Rohrwacher: “I Would Just Pass Out”

Has there been a bigger breakout performance in recent memory than Mikey Madison in Sean Baker‘s “Anora“?  With the actress currently the most awarded actress this awards season (she won again on Tuesday, with the National Board Of Review awarding her their Breakthrough Performance Award), Madison will have all sorts of directors lining up to work with her. But who does she want to work with the most?

Madison’s answers may not come as a surprise, as they’re two of the most singular filmmakers working today. IndieWire reports that when asked who she’d love to collaborate with, the actress had a very quick answer. “I love Alice Rohrwacher, I say her name a lot. I love Luca Guadagnino; I would just pass out.”

So is it possible Madison could end up working with either director?  Maybe, as Rohrwacher and Guadagnino are both in between projects right now. Each filmmaker had films in US cinemas last year, with Guada boasting the double bill of “Challengers” and “Queer,” his William S. Burroughs adaptation. Meanwhile, Rohrwacher’s “La Chimera” debuted stateside last March; she also debuted a short film, titled “An Urban Allegory,” out of competition at the Venice Film Festival last year.

But it’s unclear what either director has in store for audiences next. Guadagnino has “After The Hunt” ready for a festival debut this year, but it’s unclear when and where that happen. And Rohrwacher is the bigger mystery. While Guada is tied to various projects, including a new adaptation of “American Psycho for Lionsgate and a Sgt. Rock” film for DCU with Daniel Craig, there’s no news right now of an upcoming Rochrwacher project.

But then Madison doesn’t have anything on the horizon either. But the actress doesn’t have time to think about the future just yet, as she’s still basking in the glow of a successful awards season that’s not over for another couple of months.  What’s the greatest treat from this period for the actress? “I’ve met so many incredible women who I’ve admired for so long and have made wonderful friends, so I think that’s what I’ll take away from all of this,” said Madison. “If anything, it’s just the friendships.”

Stay tuned for how many nominations “Anora” gets at this year’s Oscars when the Academy makes their announcement on January 19 (postponed due to the ongoing wildfires in LA).
