Got a Tip?

Will Ferrell To Play Ronald ‘Reagan’

Get HardUpdate 4/29: Page Six reports that Will Ferrell won’t be doing "Reagan," and apparently, was never signed on in the first place. He had seen the script, and considered doing it, but then decided to move on. But of course, one can’t help wonder if the outrage from the Reagan family following the initial news of the actor signing on didn’t influence that decision.

Having already played former President George W. Bush to some acclaim, Will Ferrell is now setting his sights on another Republican icon, in a movie that’s sure to get plenty of conservatives upset, particularly during a highly charged election season.

The comic actor is taken the title role in "Reagan." The Black List approved script by Mike Rosolio, will follow Ronald Reagan as he falls into dementia at the start of his second term, with an ambitious intern tasked with convincing the commander in chief that he is an actor playing the president in a movie. Again, this is going to push some serious buttons among GOP types.

The script has been a popular one around town, and back in March, there was a live read done with Josh Brolin playing the lead role (curiously, he also played "W." in the biopic for Oliver Stone). But this one still needs to find a Hollywood studio, and a director to make it, and it’ll be interesting to see if anyone takes on the material that will be sure to drum up a good amount of controversy. Still, it’s such a wild idea, it would be a shame if it wasn’t made, so fingers crossed this one happens. [Variety]
