Jason Reitman’s script for “Up in the Air” (which we just recently read) doesn’t have a lot of musical cues in its script, but there are a few connections here and there. There’s a reference to “that great hip hop song from 2003” and elsewhere a character sings Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon.”
But then which ’90s rapper makes an appearance as himself? Well, none other than Young MC who busts out the first few lines of his hit “Bust a Move,” of course. In the script he’s playing at a software convention party that the three main characters (George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick) crash where they each get over — or on — with relationships. The partygoers, naturally, have a great time dancing to the song.
Of course, Young MC (nee Marvin Young) has to agree to the role first, which doesn’t seem to call for any non-lyric lines. And while the part likely wouldn’t lead to any sort of long-overdue comeback, it seems probable Mr. Young is available. We don’t know if Young MC will say yes, but we sure can dream can’t we? Flea and those animal pants would be a plus too.
