'Wolf Man' Trailer: Christopher Abbott Stars In Blumhouse's Universal Monster Reimagining

A little less than a year ago, it was thought that Derek Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling would bring us a “Wolf Man” remake. However, a lot has changed since then, as Leigh Whannell and actor Christopher Abbott are the folks who are actually making the film, which will arrive in early 2025.

As seen in the trailer, “Wolf Man” is a loose reimagining of the classic Universal Monster franchise and tells the story of a father who convinces his family to come to him to a remote home in rural Oregon. But things really get weird when an unseen animal threatens to hurt the family.

It seems as if Whannell is going the same route with “Wolf Man” that he did with “The Invisible Man” — taking the original concept and loosely reinterpreting it for the film. This definitely doesn’t feel like some sort of big-budget “Wolf Man” film.

The cast includes Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, and Sam Jaeger. The film is directed by Leigh Whannell, who is probably best known as the writer of “Saw” and the filmmaker behind movies such as “The Invisible Man” and “Upgrade.”

“Wolf Man” is set to debut in theaters on January 17. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, It Comes at Night) stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Emmy winner Julia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth; Hullraisers, Coma). But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.
