It’s an action-packed Trailer Thursday today. Yahoo have just debuted Joe Johnstone’s “The Wolf Man” starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt.
From what we recall, it looks mostly like the exact same trailer that debuted at Comic-Con last year possibly with the additions of some CGI-based scenes, which begs the question: after all the controversy that surrounded the film with re-shoots, why throw up the trailer they’ve been holding onto for a year?
It’s pretty much what you’d expect. A decent-looking, eerie Gothy-period piece that seemingly falls apart at the first sight of CGI-monsters. What’s up with that trend today? One particular monster looks like a descendant of the much-maligned bunch that were haunting Will Smith in “I Am Legend.” Del Toro, Hopkins and Blunt look like they could hold the film together in all the other parts but, nevertheless, not looking altogether great.
Del Toro’s transformations into the Wolf Man and his potential monstrous counterparts were always going to be the problem and unfortunately it looks like they’ve just churned out another installment of the “Underworld” franchise in that department. Surely, a more basic approach of sticking to practical effects would have worked better? There goes that but, without further ado, here’s the trailer. Note, the release date is February 12, not exactly an Oscar-winning release date. Maybe the “Inception” trailer can do better? Let’s hope. Cause geeks have been sorely let down today.
