There’s a lot of excitement surrounding DC Studios right now, since the takeover by co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. But with that excitement, there is quite a bit of confusion. Is this a full reboot of the superhero continuity? If so, why are Peacemaker and Amanda Waller sticking around? And what about Aquaman or Wonder Woman? Lots of questions, but not a lot of answers yet. Instead, fans are excited about the upcoming “Superman: Legacy” and seeing what happens next. But according to Gal Gadot, don’t count her out of returning to the role of Wonder Woman in this new universe being created.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, while promoting her upcoming film “Heart of Stone,” Gal Gadot was asked about her future as Wonder Woman. You may remember, part of the big DC Studios announcement regarding future projects is a TV series based on the Amazonian people, but taking place before the birth of Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman. No other WW projects were announced, leaving fans wondering if Gadot was being retained as the character or if this would build to a recasting, much like what happened with Superman. Well, apparently, it’s the former.
“I love portraying Wonder Woman,” Gadot said. “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ together.”

This is interesting because it’s not Gadot saying she has heard rumors about a new film. This is confirmation that she has spoken to Gunn and Safran about a new ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel starring her. The good news is that this would likely retcon what happened in previous films, so we don’t have the stink of “Wonder Woman 1984” to worry about. However, it does offer up more confirmation that the reboot by Gunn and Safran really is more of a “pick and choose” sorta situation. New Superman, but the old Wonder Woman. Same old Peacemaker and Amanda Waller, but a new Batman. Stuff like that.
Regardless, discussions are one thing, but nothing has been announced yet. Perhaps if “Superman: Legacy” isn’t the massive hit WB is hoping for, then Gunn and Safran will hurry up and develop a Gadot-led “Wonder Woman” sequel to earn back some of those older fans. We’ll have to wait and see.
