Thanks to the sterling reviews for “The Gentlemen,” Guy Ritchie is having a bit of a renaissance moment. While it didn’t do exceptionally well at the box office, the 2020 film was Ritchie’s best-reviewed movie since “Snatch,” the crime comedy that broke him into the mainstream twenty years ago. Between then and now, Ritchie’s filmography has been, shall we say, uneven, but after a decade-plus of blockbusters of varying quality, the director looks to be on the resurgence.
Ritchie looks to return to his crime film roots again in his next film, and with one of his best mates, Jason Statham, tagging along. “Wrath Of Man” is the first time the pair has worked together since 2005’s “Revolver,” but it treads familiar territory for the director and star: a talented crook, a heist gone sour, and revenge to be paid. Here’s the official synopsis:
A mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard (Jason Statham) surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score.
Joining Statham is an impressive ensemble cast led by Holt McCallany (‘Mindhunter‘), Jeffrey Donovan (‘Let Him Go‘), Josh Harnett (‘Most Wanted’), and Laz Alonzo (‘The Boys‘). Raúl Castillo (‘Army Of The Dead‘), DeObia Oparei (‘Jumanji: The Next Level‘), Scott Eastwood (‘The Outpost‘), Chris Reilly (‘Official Secrets’), and Niamh Algar (‘Raised By Wolves) are also on board. Eddie Marsan, who worked with Ritchie in “The Gentlemen” and the “Sherlock Holmes” films, is also in an undisclosed role, and singer Post Malone has a cameo.

“Wrath Of Man” is based on the 2004 French crime film “Le Conveyeur” (‘Cash Truck’), directed by Nicolas Boukhrief. Ritchie announced his plans to remake the movie back in October 2019, and production got underway in Los Angeles and London in November shortly afterward.
Ritchie’s upcoming projects all mark a return to his roots, too: two spy thrillers, “Five Eyes” (starring Statham again) and “Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” and a TV series based in the world of “The Gentlemen.”
Will “Wrath Of Man” mark a return to Ritch and Statham’s glory days of “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels?” Or will this film be more like “Revolver” and “Rocknrolla?” Find out on May 7, when the film hits theaters everywhere. Check out the trailer below.
