Deadline has the scoop on one: “Y2K,” a dial-up disaster comedy directed by “SNL” alumni Kyle Mooney. The film follows two high school nobodies who decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium, with the night getting even crazier after the clock strikes midnight. “IT” star Jaeden Martell and “Deadpool 2” actor Julian Dennison lead the cast, which also stars “West Side Story” actress Rachel Zegler.

“Y2K” boasts a bunch of other young up-and-comers too. The cast list includes “Scream VI” star Mason GoodingLachlan WatsonEduardo Franco, and Miles Robbins.  Tim HeideckerAlicia SilverstoneFred Hechinger, and Daniel Zolghadri are also on board, as is The Kid Laroi.

Mooney directs a script from Evan Winter. A24 is the primary producer for the film and handles its theaterical rlease.  Matt DinesAli Goodwin, and Jonah Hill co-produce the film through Strong Baby, along with “The Bear” creator Christopher Storer through American Light & Fixture. Also of note: Wētā Workshop will do special effects on the film. SFX in a comedy set on NYE 1999? With a set-up like this film has, who knows?

With Martell, Dennison and Zegler leading the way, “Y2K” may end up an excellent teen comedy. And expect Kyle Mooney’s singular brand on humor to shine through in his directing. Another A24 project to get excited about? No surprise there. Expect the hits to keep on coming for the independent studio.
